The IJN gained valuable gunnery and torpedo skills against mostly German manufactured warships which had been supplied to the Chinese Navy in 1894. Experience that would pay off later when the IJN fought the Russian Navy in 1904.
The 2nd Sino-Japanese War in the 1930's allowed Japan to gain a foot-hold in China, and test their tanks, tactics, aircraft, artillery, etc.
Japan won the war.
It didn't change consequences; the consequences were always the same: stop communist aggression or let them spread.
