It's a cultural thing, where the child is brought up as a part of the family, not just someone who happened to come out of the relationship. And they are valued for who they are,not just someone who you can add to your tax deduction at the end of the year. They, unlike American children learn early-on to take care of each other,so you don't have the Me, Me-ism that you find in the always bored, nothing to do American Child. Being an American, and living in both cultures,I know what I am Talking about.

1. Hospitable.

2. Respectful of parents and elders. They use polite words like "po" and "opo" whenever they are talking with them. They also call the elders "manong", "manang", "kuya" or "ate" to show respect to them. These words mean "sir" or "ma'am".

3. Close family ties. The parents support their children with no age limit. They do not force their children to work when they reach the age of eighteen.

4. Generous.

5. Religious - There are many festivals observed in the Philippines to celebrate feasts of saints.
