Caspian Sea

The Caspian Sea is the largest lake in the world by volume and is bounded by states of the former Soviet Union (specifically Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan) and Iran. It is considered an endorheic, or terminal lake, because the water never goes to the ocean. Because of this, minerals build up in the water as it evaporates.

No. The South China Sea covers an area of 3,500,000 square kilometres (1,350,000 sq mi), while the Mediterranean Sea covers an area of 2.5 million km² (965,000 sq mi). So the South China Sea is the bigger.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The Caspian Sea is located in northwest Asia, landlocked between Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkmenistan. Since the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991, the Caspian Sea well as the region surrounding has became the focus of much international attention due to its huge oil and natural gas reserves. The Sea, which is 700 miles long, contains six separate hydrocarbon basins, although most of its oil and natural gas reserves have not been developed yet. Although the littoral states of the Caspian Sea already are major energy producers, many areas of the Sea and the surrounding area remain unexplored.
