Fool Proof Rice 1 Cup of Rice

2 Cups of Water or Stock

Put in a pot with a lid.

Bring to a boil.

Turn off the heat and leave it sitting there.

Put on the lid immediately.

DO NOT TOUCH it for 15 minutes (no peeking AT ALL).

After 15 minutes take off the lid and fluff with a fork.

Note: If you don't have a measuring cup - you can use your coffee cup or anything you want to use. Just put in 2 times as much water or stock as you do rice. ******************************************

Ingredients:

* 2 cups water * 1 cup regular long-grain rice * 1 tablespoon butter or margarine (optional) * 1 teaspoon salt

Directions:

In a 3-quart saucepan, heat water over high heat until it boils. Stir in rice, butter or margarine (if using), and salt; heat again until water boils. Reduce heat, cover the saucepan and simmer, without stirring or lifting the lid, until the rice is tender and all liquid has been absorbed -- 18-20 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand for 5 minutes. Then fluff the rice with a fork. For drier rice, use only 1 3/4 cups water; for extra-tender rice, use 2 1/3 cups of water and cook for an extra 4-5 minutes.

Normally one cup of rice, two cups of water, a pinch of salt and a tablespoon of butter makes a nice dish. Just bring all the indegredients to a boil and then simmer on low in a covered dish until the water is all soaked up. Its done. This usually takes 8-12 minutes.

If you can afford to buy a rice steamer, it is will worth the investment! I use mine constantly. You add rice, water and butter, maybe some salt and walk away. It shuts off when it's done and stays on "warm".

If not, follow the package directions for boiling rice on the stove and be sure to be around to watch so when the water is gone, the rice doesn't burn.
