What was the first question asked on FAQ Farm?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

(From Crystal on the Supervisors' forum...)

Chris Whitten, the founder of this very site when it was FAQ Farm and a very dear friend, sent me this e-mail:

"I'm sorry to say I don't have a good answer. FAQ Farm evolved very gradually, through un-romantic steps.

In 2001 I had been hosting various discussion forums on websites such as FoundingFathers.info, NewYorkHistory.info, and MaineHistory.info. The germ of the idea for FAQ Farm was that I noticed a lot of the activity in the forums (as it is in all forums) was Q&A. When I started the FAQ Farm site in 2002 I moved a lot of Q&A from the old forums to this new site.

In the early days I also did a lot of seeding. I wrote a bunch of Q&A myself, e.g. on dental care, insurance, resumes, and job interviews.

It might be interesting to find the first question asked on the wiki software in 2004. It would be about guns or pregnancy since those are the first two topics I moved to the new system. Oleg may be able to find this through the database, since they should be timestamped."

The first question...Are both boys and girls available for adoption in equal numbers?

Oleg commented that this question was asked before 2004 (there's no exact date, because it was asked before the move to Mediawiki)…

So there you have it... history. And here's some more...

The oldest question ever changed (it was split) was "What is the value of 1991 and 1992 Silver Eagle Dollars in hard plastic shells and velvet colored cases with an eagle on top with certificates of authenticity."

The first question after the name of the website was changed to WikiAnswers has not been able to be determined at this time.

How do you delete your history on WikiAnswers?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

WikiAnswers and HistoryYour contributions to WikiAnswers cannot be deleted from the contributions list or the "Question history" page. It is used to track the quality of edits a particular user has made, as well as track the changes made to a particular question.

You can delete the contents of your profile if you so desire. However, you can prevent your contributions from appearing on your user page by going to your profile, and clicking "Hide from other users." This is located at the bottom of the Last Contributions panel. If you want to show your contributions on your profile again, click on "Show to other users."

Regardless of this setting, the contributions will appear on the "Question history" page. Additionally, other people may still view your contributions on the Special:Contributions page by entering your User ID as the target. This feature is part of what makes a wiki into a wiki, as it allows anyone to track the changes made to a question, and revert vandalism done to a page.

In theory, particularly harmful edits, such as personal information (phone numbers, addresses, etc), can be removed by an administrator with database level access or some form of oversight privilege. If you have found such an edit, you may try emailing WikiAnswers @ Answers.com (remove spaces). Make sure you include the URL of the edit that needs to be censored. Mundane edits to pages are unlikely to be removed.

You can request that your username be changed to something that nobody will recognize. Then people won't be able to find your records. Email WikiAnswers @ answers.com and explain why you want to change your name.

Wow!!!! You are really special! Don't worry, though. I will help you through this. Don't listen to the experts. You can do whatever you want when you grow up because I believe in you! Don't lose hope. When I was a munchkin, like you probably are, they wanted to ship me off. They were going to have me enrolled in the "lollypop guild". Luckily I ran away and joined the circus. I learned how to be a monkey there! It was the happiest I ever have been.

Wow, what a question! The Genesis of WikiAnswers... Perhaps we'll never know, it was so long ago (2002) when the site went by another name (FAQ Farm). But chances are that the founder of the site, Chris Whitten, asked the first question - after all he was the one that built the site's structure and mechanism!

Who is Oleg Karp?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Oleg is a supervisor and a developer at Wikianswers.com site.

Oleg was born in 1984 in the former USSR and grew up in Kiev (currently the capital of Ukraine). Although his elementary school years were rather uninteresting, things picked up when he entered high school - a physics-mathematical college. During this time, Oleg simultaneously studied at a music school where he learned to play piano. He also had the opportunity to perform at a few theatres in Moscow, where his father was a theatrical director. Outside of his studies the bulk of his free time was spent with computers and computer-related books. Oleg went on to receive a B.Sc. in Computer Science. From there he worked at a big ISP company in the Ukraine - where he started as a systems administrator and after some time moved to the software development department. Most of his programming knowledge is from books. In 2000, he moved to Israel with his parents, but didn't immediately live there. He wanted to graduate from a university first, and one that was preferably in his native language. So after some time away, he finally returned to Israel in February 2007 and started working at Answers as a developer of the WikiAnswers project. Until October 2007, Oleg was the only developer of WikiAnswers and worked together with Chris Whitten (WA founder). Currently Oleg lives in Jerusalem with his two cats, enjoys music, playing guitar (mostly electric) and watching good movies (mostly science fiction or action/adventure movies). He pointed out that he loves all kinds of new high tech gadgets (Really? We couldn't tell!). He is also interested in astronomy and loves to watch stars and planets using his telescope. Given his record, he could soon be gazing at The Oleg Star!
